Report

(Edited for the web)

by John Junstrom

Arriving in Lakeland, Florida, around 11a.m, I went inside a McDonald's restaurant. Some people commented about  the T-Shirt (with a gospel message) that I was wearing. They asked me to sit down with them for a few minutes. Very soon, it became apparent that they did not like hearing truths from the written word of God such as how God really saves us and the true gospel of His grace. One man asked me to go outside to talk. I declined because I am not ashamed to share the gospel in front of other people. That ended our conversation.

After that God allowed me to find a busy street corner, Hwy 98 and Daughtry Road. During the next hour or so about 15 cars gladly took tracts.

I then went across the street to the "Ignited Church" where a revival was taking place.  Soon after seeing my large sign about "All Churches are Spiritually Dead," a man came out to talk to me.  The man said he had come all the way from South Africa. I was able to share some verses with him about "an evil and wicked generation" seeks after a sign.  A few minutes after he left, two other men came out and told me how they had been healed of all of their infirmities. I then shared similar verses from the Bible that I had just shared with the previous man. When the assistant pastor of this church came out by where I was standing, I shared the same message with him. He then said he was going to call the police. Although I was standing on a public sidewalk, I left anyway. At that time, their meeting was scheduled to begin.

My next stop was a nearby mall in the same city of Lakeland. Twenty tracts were willingly taken in the mall area as well as the bus stop outside. At that time, I thought I should head over to the Lakeland Regional Airport where the Revival Meeting was to take place at 7pm. I arrived there about 4p.m. and easily parked my truck (which displayed gospel messages printed on magnetic signs) in a field that had been fenced off for parking. There right by my truck, I was able to talk with more people about the gospel, some accepting Bible tracts. One lady had come from Chicago. A man and his family had driven all the way from Ohio, overnight. That man was wearing a shirt with a picture of the 2 tablets containing the Ten Commandments. That gave a wonderful opportunity to share with him about the two times God gave the Ten Commandments. The first time was for the unbelievers because Moses broke the tablets. The second time was for the Elect, the ones saved by God. This set of Tablets went into the Ark of the Covenant. This man also accepted a Bible tract.

About 25 more tracts were accepted by those passing through the narrow gate of this parking area on their way over to the meeting tent (See picture above). Two people started reading the tracts and began asking questions. They did not like the answers from the Bible that I shared with them. One man even said he was going to have someone from the Revival come and talk with me.  A few minutes later, a man (probably a security guard) told me that I was going to have to leave right away. Apparently he did not like my truck signs either. Well, I did cooperate, but as I was slowly (because of the crowd) proceeding to the Exit, many faces were aghast when they read the gospel message signs on my truck. As I was giving the man at the Exit Gate a Bible tract, a car came up quickly from behind, yelling, "Don't take it!  Don't take it!"

Well, by God's grace, I did not give up easily. I proceeded a mile or so down the road to the airport entrance at County Line Road and Medulla Road. A cemetery was on the corner. It was this corner that I believed was considered public property. I was there over an hour with possibly 50 - 75 cars coming into the cemetery seeing the big hand-held gospel message sign. Most did not like my sign. One man pulled over and asked where the Revival was.  I told him that that was the last place true believers of the Lord Jesus Christ would want to go.

I was later asked to leave by the Polk County Sheriff. He pulled up with flashing lights and his siren going followed by another car which belonged to the same security guard that had approached me in the parking area. He asked me what I was doing and I replied, respectfully, that I was holding up a message sign which I felt was not any different than someone holding up a sign for a children's car wash.  I asked him what was my offense. He replied, "None." He then said that I was trespassing on private property.

Well, that's it for my report on this gospel sharing effort.  May God's perfect will be done.
